Lockdown challenge update 2

Well we’re past the first week of lockdown and I’ve got quite a few photos to show you. As well as the paintings I’ve been doing, I’ve got pictures from Paul, Julia, Julie and Janet. If anyone else would like to join in, please do send me photos – it’s great receiving messages with photos of what you’ve been up to.

I’m still enjoying the sketches – I’ve used charcoal in quite a few of these. I’m trying a new technique of blocking in the dark areas and then working over to bring the images out. I tried that technique on my oil sketch too.

The under painting for the traditional still life’s took quite a while but now the fun begins with colour. The first day I gave the whole pictured a Cadmium Yellow glaze. Today I went over with a glaze of Prussian Blue and a bit of white to pick out the highlights.

Contact me if you have any questions or want me to provide any more information in future recordings. These portraits are only small 7×5″ so if I’m not totally happy with what I’ve…

  • Face on Linen (2)

Well I think I got quite carried away when I started on this painting. It occurred to me that I had intended to leave the hair unpainted – never mind, the application of a little alcohol with a toothbrush has taken it back. I may yet repaint the hair, but at least I can see…
