I paint my portraits from photographs so there’s no sitting still for hours on end and no travel costs. It also means that, so long as you have access to a photograph (digital ideally but not necessary), the portrait can be a surprise if it’s intended as a gift.
I have painted portraits as gifts on significant birthdays and anniversarys, as gifts for grandparents and also wedding gifts. (If you wish to give a portrait as a wedding present let me know in advance so I can book the time to complete the painting as soon after the wedding as possible.)
You may just want to treat yourself to a picture of your loved ones – who needs a reason?
My preferred mediums are oil and pencil, plus pastel for animals.

Painting a portrait takes a considerable amount of time and committment, so a deposit of 20% is required before the painting can be started.
Price will depend on the size, medium used and the number of individuals in the portrait. Pencil starts at around £350, oils at £490 for a 1 subject portrait.
If painted on box canvas, oil portraits can be supplied ready to hang, no framing required. Framing of paintings on canvas board or drawings is left to yourself as it is dependant on your personal taste, where you wish to hang it etc.
